EXAMPLE PROJECTS / TRUSTED EDGE SYSTEMS

Authenticated
edge devices.

Embedded systems that combine control, connectivity, and hardware-backed identity to recognize the filters and disposable parts connected to them.

01 / THE CHALLENGE

Know what is connected.

Authentication at the edge allows a product to identify a connected filter or disposable component before using it. These projects bring that trust decision into compact embedded hardware using microcontrollers, firmware, secure elements, and RFID.

The examples below show several ways to fit authentication into the product architecture, from a complete water-filter controller to dedicated RFID modules.

01 / FILTER CONTROLLER

Secure-element filter authentication

A controller for a water-filter system built around a microcontroller and dedicated firmware. An onboard secure element authenticates and identifies the connected filter as part of the control system.

  • Microcontroller-based control
  • Custom embedded firmware
  • Secure-element identity and authentication

Wi-Fi and RFID authentication

A separate design combines a Wi-Fi-connected microcontroller with an integrated RFID interface to authenticate a connected filter while supporting network connectivity.

  • Wi-Fi-connected microcontroller
  • Integrated RFID antenna and interface
  • Filter authentication at the device

03 / COMPACT AUTHENTICATION BOARD

Disposable-part authentication

A compact sample board combines a microcontroller, secure element, and RFID to authenticate a disposable part within a larger product system.

  • Compact board architecture
  • Microcontroller and secure element
  • RFID-based disposable-part authentication
